Do you REALLY need a tax preparer?
My answer might surprise you.
I’m often asked “do I truly NEED someone to prepare my taxes?” I’m always honest. Not always. Many people have simple returns that they can complete themselves. Here’s some information to help you decide if hiring a tax preparer is something you should consider.
You can choose to do them yourself.
If your taxes are super simple, you might be fine doing them on your own.
You may not need a tax preparer if:
You have one W-2
You don’t own a home
You don’t have any dependents
You didn’t move or start a business
You’re not self-employed
In that case, you may be able to use tax software to file on your own. If you aren’t sure if our services would benefit you, book a free consultation. I’ll let you know the pros and cons and you can decide.
When is working with a tax preparer a good idea?
Some life events makes taxes tricky. You may want to work with a tax preparer if:
You bought or sold a house
You own more than one property or home
You have dependents and want to claim tax credits
You’re married, divorced, or separated
You own a business or do freelance work
You had more than one job or moved states
You want to make sure you don’t miss anything
You want to strategize with a professional on how to minimize your tax liability
Made any large donations
A tax pro knows the rules and can help you get the biggest refund (or pay the least).
